Thunder bay folk festival

Thunder Bay was hands down the best show I have ever played. This was a festival that Red Herring played at and as you can see in these photos, it was one of the happiest times of my life. These Michigan music festivals have formed me into the person I am today and that was definitely was something to remember forever. We had some amazing Jams with our good Friends Nina and the Buffalo Riders (who are insanely nice and such amazing humans and musicians.)

The festival started out with a horrendous storm that... in some evil way.... was so fun! I bundled up in my raincoat and went out in the craziness to help keep the vendors' tents up. But the storm passed and the weekend went on with some amazing musicians.

The best part of the festival (besides the amazing crowd that let me sing my heart out to them) was for sure the drum kiva. It really transports me to outer-space or some shit... So cool I can wait to be back.

This was such a great event that was put on. I love every show that I can bring my cutest little bro Conner to (he always kills it on percussion). It was such an honor to open for the Ragbirds, they are one of the first truly Michigan bands that introduced me to the crazy Michigan Music scene.

My love for Holler fest will never die!! I love this tiny farm for everything it is. My parents and Chris actually grew up 10 minutes from the farm so it was so crazy to discover this little gem in the middle of nowhere Michigan. Frog Holler was the first music I ever attended at the age of 13 and I haven't missed one since. The people are so beautiful, the food is to die for, and the music is so magical. I can't wait to continue going back every single year even if I am not playing.

It was there and it was done. This was a good gig, not amazing, but we got some good pics so I guess that's all that matters. After we were done here I had to quickly rush to frog holler fest to play with the Syd Burnham band. Good times.

Here is some humor for ya... when I first joined Red Herring the boys were too scared to even talk to me (I'm pretty sure they thought I had cooties or something) but now I strangling max and they are all laughing at me doing it. Good times.....

Well, this was super amazing. Red Herring had the awesome opportunity of opening for Mark lavengood, The go-rounds, and JOE HERTLER AND THE FRICKEN RAINBOW SEEKERS. Dude what a treat was that. Unfortunately, our drummer boy Joshy had to miss out because he was on tour with the school of rock but we were able to pull it off with max on drums and me on bass.

We were able to stick around and watch all the acts even though we were underage! Yeah, it's pretty awesome being a musician and playing shows with a great line up because you get the perk of sticking around when you shouldn't.

Beacon Park

Whenever I read Beacon park I always want to say Deacon because of deacon blues by steely dan..... This post has nothing to do with steely dan..... I just really love steely dan.

ANYWAYS, what a great gig. Right downtown Detroit (my soon to be home, go warriors!!!) The only bad part of this show was the heat. I almost passed out every time I hit a high note. But no worries because there was an awesome food truck that had great smoothies. I feel bad that I don't remember the name but I'll see it again soon and let you guys in on the delish foods.

Beaver Island

I never want to leave the Island once I get there. This festival is so amazing because you are trapped on an island with all the musicians and it is really the best way to make friends and connections. This festival has brought me close to many artists such as Dave Boutette and brotha James but especially to Melophobix. This band is so amazing and not to mention some of the nicest dudes I have ever met. It was crazy to find out that their drummer is the one of my favorite 8th-grade teacher, small world!!! I can't wait until I'm "Of age" to attend this festival because these people really know how to party. Seriously I don't think the island even wakes up until nearly 4 pm because of staying up so late.

Also, have you ever heard of boodling?! (I am not sure if I used the correct spelling for that) If you haven't... well I'm not gonna tell you what it is, you have to find out for yourself.

This is a festival that everyone needs to experience at least once and I say this because it is so unlike any festival out there. I mean you literally have to take a giant ferry across Lake Michigan with all of your camping gear to get there. (which can be quite a struggle)

And I know I have told them thank you a million times but they deserve a million more so, thank you to the burtons. They let hundred of crazy hippies live on their property for a week (some for even a week)  and they are some of the most hospitable people in the world. You guys rock.

Red Herring at Nor eastr 2017

Nor East'r 2017:
This was my second time at the Nor East'r festival but my first time with red herring. This festival is so magical and is something I will always remember. This was my first time ever headlining a festival and watching people get up and dance and connect with my music on such an energetic level was something I never experienced before.

When I was here in 2016 with the Syd Burnham Band was the first time I ever saw or heard of Red Herring. If it wasn't for this festival I wouldn't be playing music with some of my best friends.

Thank you to Craig Carrick for putting together such an amazing weekend.
